How do I administer weight loss injections?
Wegovy weight loss injections are self-administered subcutaneous injections that you inject under your skin. The best sites for injecting are the front of your waist (abdomen), the front of your thigh or the upper arm. You must take extra care not to inject into a vein or muscle.

How do I use Wegovy?
Wegovy is a prescription medication that is administered through subcutaneous injections once a week and should be used on the same day each week at the same time of day, if possible.
Wegovy comes in a pre-filled weight-loss injection pen. When you take Wegovy you need to gradually increase your dose on a monthly basis. This involves starting with a low dose of Wegovy and gradually increasing it over a period of 5 months until the desired effect is achieved or until side effects become intolerable.
All patients commencing Wegovy will start on a weekly dose of 0.25 mg per week for four weeks. Once a patient has had four weeks of the starting dose they will increase to the next dose in the step up phase
What is the Wegovy Dose Schedule for weight Loss?
Increasing the dose slowly over time should minimise any unwanted side effects, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
You must continue with your new diet and exercise regime while you are taking Wegovy.

If you experience symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or difficulty breathing then you must seek medical attention immediately.

How long will a Wegovy pen last?
Each Wegovy pen lasts for 4 weeks
A Wegovy pen contains 4 doses of medication at the specified strength. This means that a single pen lasts for 4 weeks, delivering 4 doses of semaglutide.
Wegovy comes in five different strengths of pens, each containing one of the following prescribed doses of semaglutide: 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg or 2.4mg.
The recommended starting dose is 0.25 mg once a week for the first four weeks. One pre-filled 0.25mg pen contains four 0.25mg doses of semaglutide in 1.5 ml solution. This pen will last for four weeks.
You will move up the doses as per diagram below on a monthly basis. Each pen contains 4 doses at the stated strength and you cannot skip a strength meaning that you must step up doses as detailed below.

Ongoing maintenance dose
The ongoing maintenance dose of Wegovy (semaglutide) may vary depending on the individual and their weight loss goals. However, the typical maintenance dose is 2.4 mg once a week.
The use of Wegovy should be supervised by a qualified clinician who will be responsible for monitoring a patient's response to treatment and in particular any side effects that may arise.
In some circumstances patients may not be able to tolerate the higher dosages of Wegovy, but they will experience the benefits of treatment on a lower dose of the medication. In these circumstances patients will remain at the lower dose rather than stepping up to the maintenance dose of Wegovy.
Whilst not reaching the maintenance dose of Wegovy could be considered as an off license use of the medication, under the appropriate qualified supervision a medical judgement can be made on the appropriateness of continuation of treatment on a lower dose.
Do I need to increase the dose every month?
No is the simple answer. If you find that you experience sufficient appetite suppression on a lower dose you can stick with this. Using lower doses will reduce the likelihood of side effects. You then have the option to increase the dose at a later date if you find that the appetite suppression is not as effective.
