Wegovy Dose Schedule: Complete Month-by-Month Guide
As of 2026, Wegovy (semaglutide) is a mature, mainstream option on the UK market for adults who need help to lose weight alongside diet, exercise, and behavioural support. It is a once-weekly injection used under qualified supervision, with doses increased in clear steps so tolerability can be monitored.
UK clinics and patients now have substantial real-world experience with prescribing, titration, and follow-up, alongside the original evidence from the STEP programme and ongoing use in practice. Supply and dose escalation are familiar parts of routine obesity care rather than an early “launch phase” story.
Wegovy remains one of the most effective licensed medical treatments for obesity when used as part of a broader plan. The table below sets out the standard month-by-month titration most new starters are guided through in practice, through to standard maintenance at 2.4 mg and, where appropriate, the higher 7.2 mg maintenance dose.

All patients commencing Wegovy and not transitioning from Saxenda will usually follow the titration above: each step lasts four weeks before increasing to the next dose, unless your clinician advises otherwise.
Most people reach the 2.4 mg standard maintenance dose after the stepwise increases shown. In the UK, 7.2 mg weekly is also licensed as a higher maintenance option for suitable patients who need additional effect; any move to 7.2 mg must be clinician-led. Do all patients have to reach the maintenance dose of Wegovy?
The use of Wegovy should be supervised by a qualified clinician who will be responsible for monitoring a patient's response to treatment and in particular any side effects that may arise.
In some circumstances patients may not be able to tolerate the higher dosages of Wegovy, but they will experience the benefits of treatment on a lower dose of the medication. In these circumstances patients will remain at the lower dose rather than stepping up to the maintenance dose of Wegovy.
Whilst not reaching the maintenance dose of Wegovy could be considered as an off license use of the medication, under the appropriate qualified supervision a medical judgement can be made on the appropriateness of continuation of treatment on a lower dose.
The importance of a treatment plan whilst taking Wegovy
It is important for patients to actively engage with their treatment plan when using Wegovy weight loss injections. Wegovy is a weekly injection that is titrated every 4 weeks from a starting dose of 0.25mg towards standard maintenance at 2.4mg weekly, with 7.2mg available as a higher maintenance dose when clinically appropriate.
Patients should actively engage with their treatment provider and interact with follow up consultations for Wegovy when invited to do so.

How do I transition to Wegovy from Saxenda?
It is important to note that Wegovy and Saxenda must not be used in conjunction with one another. Regardless of weight loss treatment, only one weight loss treatment should be used at any time.
