Nevolat (generic Saxenda)
Once-daily liraglutide injection for weight management.
Nevolat (generic Saxenda) is a once-daily injection you administer yourself to support weight loss. It contains liraglutide, similar to the natural hormone GLP-1. It helps you feel less hungry, slows stomach emptying and increases fullness. Nevolat is used alongside an active lifestyle and a calorie-controlled balanced diet; exercise helps you maintain a healthy weight when you stop treatment.

Nevolat (generic Saxenda) frequently asked questions
How does Nevolat (generic Saxenda) work?
Nevolat (liraglutide 6mg/ml) is a self-injectable weight loss treatment. It contains liraglutide, which is very similar to a naturally occurring hormone in your body called GLP-1. After a meal, GLP-1 is naturally released from your intestines. It works in a part of the brain involved in the regulation of appetite and food intake. Nevolat increases feelings of satiety (fullness) and decreases hunger. As a result, many people feel satisfied and eat less food, supporting weight loss when combined with diet and exercise.
Nevolat (generic Saxenda) and weight loss
Nevolat can help you feel full for longer and therefore less hungry, which supports eating less and reducing body weight. The reduced appetite helps with weight loss and long-term weight maintenance. When you join PrivateDoc we assess your individual circumstances to see if Nevolat is appropriate for your weight management.
How much does Nevolat (generic Saxenda) cost?
Nevolat packs start from £64.99
Nevolat comes in a 3ml pre-filled pen; you can usually choose between one and five pens. When you first start Nevolat, a single pen will last about 17 days on the starting dose. See Nevolat pack sizes and prices

Is Nevolat (generic Saxenda) suitable for me?
Nevolat can only be used as a weight-loss treatment if you have previously tried and failed to lose weight through diet and exercise alone.
You can expect to lose a minimum of 5% of your initial body weight after completing 12 weeks of treatment at 3.0mg liraglutide daily. If you have not lost 5% of your initial body weight after 12 weeks at 3.0mg, then treatment should be discontinued at this stage.
Is there any evidence that Nevolat (generic Saxenda) works?
Liraglutide has been studied extensively in multiple clinical trials to establish its clinical benefits for weight management.
How do I use Nevolat (generic Saxenda)?
Nevolat comes in a 3ml pre-filled weight loss injection pen with a clear and colourless or almost colourless solution. Pens are supplied with the needles you need. Store unused pens in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) before first use. Once you start using a pen, you can usually keep it for 1 month at room temperature (2 to 30°C) or in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C). Do not freeze.
When you take Nevolat you gradually increase your dose in 0.6mg steps until you reach the maintenance dose of 3mg daily:
- Week 1 – 0.6mg once daily
- Week 2 – 1.2mg once daily
- Week 3 – 1.8mg once daily
- Week 4 – 2.4mg once daily
- Week 5 onwards – maintenance dose 3.0mg once daily
How long does one Nevolat pen last?
Increasing the dose slowly over time should minimise side effects such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. If you cannot tolerate side effects as you increase, stay on the same dose for 2 continuous weeks; if they are still not tolerable after 2 weeks, consider stopping treatment as advised by your clinician.
The maximum recommended daily dosage of liraglutide for this indication is 3.0mg. Try to inject at the same time each day, with or without food or drink.
You must continue your diet and exercise plan while taking Nevolat. Always use Nevolat exactly as your prescriber tells you.
When you first start Nevolat, a single pen will last 17 days and the first full pack of five pens will last six weeks. At the maintenance dose, a pack of five pens will last 30 days.
How do I administer my Nevolat (generic Saxenda) injection?
Nevolat is a self-administered subcutaneous injection under the skin. The best sites are the front of your waist (abdomen), the front of your thigh or the upper arm. You must take extra care not to inject into a vein or muscle.
If you accidentally use more Nevolat than you should, speak to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away. You may experience nausea or vomiting and may need medical treatment.
If you forget a dose, you can inject it as soon as you remember if it is within 12 hours of your usual time. If more than 12 hours have passed, skip the dose and inject the next dose the following day at the usual time. Never use a double dose or increase the next dose to make up for a missed dose. If there has been more than 72 hours between doses, you may need to return to the 0.6mg starting dose and work through the titration again as advised.
